Every year between October 15th and December 7th you have the option of choosing or changing your Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. This is known as the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). It’s very important during AEP that you review your drug plan for any possible changes such as:
- Premiums
- Coinsurance and Deductibles
- Copays
- Preferred Network Pharmacies
- Drug Tiers and Formularies
Failure to review your plan each year could cost you a lot of money in drug prices the following year. Understanding Medicare can be a huge task, but that’s why we’re here.
How to Find the Best Available Part D Prescription Drug Plan for You
When searching for a drug plan, it’s important to understand plans vary by zip code. The simplest way to find plans available to you in your service area is to visit Medicare.gov. Here you can use the Medicare Plan Search Option where you can enter your ZIP code, input your prescription drugs, choose your pharmacy, and sort by lowest drug cost.
After all your information is entered onto the site, it will give you a list of drug plans available to you, sorting them from lowest drug price plus premium cost. Keep in mind the lowest premium doesn’t necessarily mean the lowest costing plan for you. Too many people make the mistake of choosing a plan simply because the monthly premium is low. It’s important to take into consideration not only the premium but also the plan’s deductibles, coinsurance, and copays.
This tool, while taking advantage of the help offered to you from Largent Insurance, will be beneficial for anyone shopping for Greensboro and Winston-Salem Medicare Plans.
The most important aspect when choosing a drug plan is your total out-of-pocket costs for the year plus the plan’s star rating. A low star rating could mean poor customer service and increased rates as compared to a high star rating of 4 or 5, which typically means good customer service and stable rates.
